Alps - day 1 - 3
Describe the characteristics of oolithic limestone found in the Alpine region.

massive limestone; reacts to HCl; color: beige
Oolithic limestone is characterized by its composition of ooliths, which are small spherical grains formed from calcium carbonate. It often contains fossils such as oyster shells (Bivalves), crinoids, and corals, and may exhibit striations and dissolution marks. -
found on day 1 in Barrage de Villebois - Jura Mountains and infill of Bresse Graben (oolithic limestone found as clasts - badly sorted- in Bettant - found with striations and dissolution marks --> Bresse Graben: Jura thrust over Bresse graben and fills this in - only at boundrary between the 2 (Bresse Graben & Jura mountains)
no striations and dissolution markts --> Jura Mountains: autochtonous & para-autochtonous due to overthrusting
age: Middle-Jurassic (Aalenian - Bajocian); overthrusting happened Post Early Plioceen
